cMoe helps area children in more ways than one

Join cMoe and the Tri-State Food Bank for a food drive to benefit the BackPack - Food for Kids program and receive a special cMoe discount August 5-10.  Anyone presenting a food item to the drive will get $2 admission to cMoe (regularly $6).  The food drive runs Tuesday, August 5 through Sunday, August 10 at the Koch Family Children's Museum of Evansville (cMoe), 22 SE 5th Street, Evansville, IN  47708.  It is the kick-off event for cMoe’s fall Membership Drive.

The Tri-State Food Bank’s BackPack - Food for Kids program targets children at risk of hunger over the weekend.  Working in partnership with local agencies and school social workers, the Tri-State Food Bank provides backpacks filled with food for extremely at-risk kids so they will have food over the weekend.  Each backpack contains 6 meals and 2 snacks.

December Warren, cMoe’s Executive Director, said, “cMoe is proud to host a food drive to collect items for the BackPack program, especially as the new school year begins in the Tri-State.  Good nutrition is important to help children learn at school and at the Museum, so we’re happy to provide a special discount week and food drive to kick-off our Membership Drive.”

Nearly 92,000 people in the tri-state live at or below poverty level.  Of those, 33.9% are children.  Over 9,000 kids in EVSC participate in the free school lunch program.  Food bank Director, Mary Blair said, “Children are a special concern as studies show that even mild under-nutrition can decrease learning potential.  Many kids rely on the free school lunch during the week, but have no food security over the weekend.”
