September is Hunger Action Month

Food, monetary contributions and volunteers are essential to our mission.  Select the appropriate tabs to the left to learn more about how you can help .

While donated food accounts for the majority of food received at the Food Bank, we do have operating expenses.  We have to pay shipping costs for delivery of donated goods to our warehouse, transportation costs for local collections and delivery to sites, and utilities associated with refrigeration and freezer storage.  Equipment to run the warehouse, office equipment to assure proper inventory control and accountability, staff, and insurance costs are also necessary for our operation.

Tri-State Food Bank uses contributions efficiently.  Only 3% of our functional expenses went to management and fundraising with 97% going directly into our feeding programs.

There is much to do to prepare food for distribution to the local pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters.  Volunteers help repack bulk product, inspects salvage collections, and performs general warehouse task.  Volunteers also help in the office by preparing labels for products, entering data, filing, etc.  Volunteers help at special events and fundraisers.

All this helps minimize staff cost and produces a quicker distribution of food to the needy.  That is why volunteers are invaluable to our operation.

Many local business and contractors donate their services and used equipment to the Food Bank.

Contractors assist with construction and facilities maintenance, while other business donate used equipment, including computers, printers, desks, chairs, tools, and warehouse equipment.

Financial donations help us purchase equipment and supplies necessary to accept, warehouse, and distribute donated food to the needy.

Tri-State Food Bank needs your help and we will always strive to use your time and contributions resourcefully.
