Publication 4492-B Information for Affected Taxpayers in the Midwestern Disaster Areas

As part of an economic stimulus package, Congress passed the Heartland Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2008 in October, which allows residents in any of the counties declared disaster areas to deduct total damage-related costs in full.

Previously tax laws required a percentage of the homes value to be subtracted from the total damage costs.
