What are the typical volunteer projects?
At Tri-State Food Bank we have a constant need for volunteers, both in our warehouse and in our office. We simply couldn’t do what we do without community support!
Weekend Backpack Food for Kids Program: Staff & Volunteers pack child-friendly food items such as cereal, fruit cups, shelf-stable milk, and more into plastic bags during months school is in session. These bags then go to schools and agencies who disburse them to children at the end of each week. A Great opportunity for groups!
Sorting and Labeling Food Items: Outside food donations from local businesses & food drives must be inspected, sorted, and repackaged for distribution.
Food for Seniors: A federal program provides food to seniors who need assistance. Staff and Volunteers are needed to pack food boxes each month.
General Cleaning: It’s important that our facility maintain a high level of cleanliness – it keeps the food safe! Sweeping, mopping, dusting and emptying trash are extremely important jobs in both our warehouse and office building.
Office: Occasionally there is a need for help with bulk mailing, data entry, filing and special projects such as folding mail and stuffing envelopes for mailing.
Special Events: We have special events throughout the year (outside of office hours) that require volunteer help such as food drives, our Christmas Giveaway, donation rallies and many more!
Volunteer “Blitzes”: Typically the first and third Saturdays, excluding holidays, each month, from 9 a.m. thru noon are our blitz days. Events vary - volunteers could be assembling BackPacks, boxing senior meals, labeling "shiners", or various other activities, depending on what needs to be done!
